Is he surly and moody? It is a story of personal sacrifice and just plain hard work.
This highly entertaining memoir is a good insight into one jumpy sprinter’s brain. He is also not afraid to laugh at himself, describing bad intervals where he comforted himself by stuffing his face with junk food, and just how bad he was on hills. In what must have called for near-superhuman effort, he edged out Heinrich Haussler for a fantastic Milan-San Remo win.

Heart on sleeve account of Cav’s entry into professional road cycling, and his emergence markk the fastest man on two wheels. At times it is painfully obvious who he does and does not respect in the cycling world, and yet he is surprisingly self-critical, self-effacing, and not afraid to admit when he has been proven wrong about someone. This book ends, of course, at the end of the beginning, leaving a “to be continued” feel.

The transitions feel both natural and relevant. This is a great book for those interested in a behind the scenes look at pro cycling. He is conflicted about British Cycling and what seems to him a natural career progression is in fact exceptional as cavendisb countries do not enjoy this kind of organization from the grass-roots on up to Olympic competition.
