You can change this to sRGB as well in the ‘standard’ mode, which we will test in a moment. It does seem that for IPS panels, a G2G response time around 9ms tends to be about as good as you can get without introducing some noticeable overshoot problems. The colour space is now very close to the sRGB reference although it doesn’t match exactly. It’s very hard as a result to produce a technique which will measure just the signal processing on its own unfortunately.


Backlight Dimming and Flicker. There was a great range of ergonomic adjustments available from the stand allowing you to obtain a comfortable position for a wide variety of angles.

A partial solution though if you want to use the screen in lower ambient lighting conditions. There are dark trails behind the moving car as you can easily see, where the overdrive impulse was being applied too aggressively. We have plotted the luminance trend on the graph above.

Average Static Contrast Ratio.

The default factory bens of the screen was good in terms of gamma, white point and the balance of colours, with only minor errors from the factory calibration. Great to see a full range of options from the stand here. That impacts luminance and contrast ratio which we will look at later on in the review. For our tests we will continue to use the SMTT tool to measure the overall “display lag”.

The screen behaves as it should in this beq, with a reduction in the luminance output of the screen controlled by the reduction in the OSD brightness setting.

We will consider the following points here as much as possible. The factory calibrated white point and gamma were only slightly off by our measurements. We will carry out some hardware calibrations in a moment and also validate the results using our normal LaCie Blue Eye Pro report feature for easy comparison.

Testing the screen with various gradients showed smooth transitions with no sign of any banding thankfully. Since most users won’t have access to hardware colorimeter tools, it is important to understand how the screen is going to perform in terms of colour accuracy for the average user.
